ABOUT BRONKHORSTSPRUIT, SOUTH AFRICA: Bronkhorstspruit is a farming town on the border between the Gauteng and Mpumalanga, situated 50km east of Pretoria towards Witbank. The largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere can be found here in the suburb of Cultura park. The temple is the South African headquarters of the Humanistic Buddhist order and does a lot of community work, celebrates Chinese New Year and is open to the public. In 1958 a group of Voortrekkers settled in the Bronkhorstspruit creek, which was originally called Kalkoenkransriver ("turkey ridge river"). In June 1897, the South African Republic gave its approval of the town, then already named Bronkhorstspruit by the locals.
