ABOUT KURUMAN, SOUTH AFRICA: The town of Kuruman is on the Northern Cape side of the border between the Northern Cape and the North West provinces. The town is famous for its scenic beauty and a geological feature that brings water from deep underground to the surface of the Kalahari Desert, known as the Oog (or Eye in English).Kuruman has relatively mild weather patterns, compared to other Northern Cape towns, such as Upington and Springbok and is also surrounded by more vegetation than is typically associated with its semi-desert environments.Kuruman was founded as a London Missionary Society mission station by Robert Moffat in 1821. In fact, this is the station where David Livingstone arrived for his first position as missionary in 1841.
