ABOUT MALALANE, SOUTH AFRICA: Malalane is a small farming town in Mpumalanga that was founded in 1949. The name is either derived from the Swazi expression "eMlalani", which means "place of the palms”, or the expression "lala”, which means "to sleep". Today, Malalane is an attraction to many tourists because of its proximity to the Kruger National Park, but it is also a farming town producing sugarcane, subtropical fruit and winter vegetables. The Malalane area was originally a bush area and was known as “The Kruger Shooting Concession”, where leopard, lion and buffalo were often shot as a sport, but in 1926 the area was proclaimed as the Kruger National Park and hunting stopped. As of July 2007, the town name was officially changed from "Malelane" to "Malalane"...
