ABOUT POLOKWANE, SOUTH AFRICA: Polokwane (formerly known as Pietersburg) was founded in 1886 by the Voortrekker leader Petrus Jacobus Joubert and is the capital city of the Limpopo province. It is seen as a place of "myths and legends" and has many game viewing opportunities, making Polokwane one of South Africa's most popular ecotourism destinations.Due to its position on the plateau, Polokwane's climate has temperatures of 21 or 22 degrees Celsius in January and falls to 11 degrees Celsius in July. Polokwane has a dry climate with a summer rainy season (495mm in December/January) and a pronounced dry spell during the winter.During the Boer War, the British built a concentration camp here to house 4,000 Boer women and children.
