ABOUT PORT SHEPSTONE, SOUTH AFRICA: Port Shepstone is situated on the mouth of the largest river of the south coast of the KwaZulu Natal province, the Mzimkulu River ("the great home of all rivers”). Port Shepstone is the administrative, educational and commercial centre of southern Natal. It's industries include a sugar mill, a lime works and a marble quarry. Timber, wattle bark and sub-tropical fruit are also produced in the district.Port Shepstone was founded in 1876 when marble was discovered nearby and was named in honour of Sir Theophilus Shepstone of the Natal government in the 1880's.
