ABOUT SABIE, SOUTH AFRICA: Sabie is a forestry town situated on the banks of the Sabie River, 360km from Johannesburg and 64km west of the Kruger National Park. It is situated approximately 1000m above sea level and is in the summer rainfall area. Sabie is a popular tourist destination known for its breathtaking scenery and beautiful waterfalls. The names “Sabie” was taken from the Sabie River which was once teeming with crocodiles. This led to the local Shangaan people dubbing it "uluSaba" which means "fearful river". The town was later started when HT Glynn and JC Ingle found gold here and formed the Glynns-Lydenburg Gold Mining Company. Today, however, Sabie's main industry is forestry. The plantations surrounding Sabie form one of the world's largest man-made forests.
