ABOUT TZANEEN, SOUTH AFRICA: Tzaneen is a town of 650,000 people situated in the Mpani district of the Limpopo province, 420km from Johannesburg. Tzaneen is a fertile region of tropical and subtropical agriculture growing mangoes, bananas, oranges, avocados and many tropical fruit. There are also local pine and eucalyptus plantations serving a number of sawmills located in the region. The origin of the town's name is contested, either originating from the Sotho “tsaneng” meaning “gathering place”, or “tsana” meaning “basket of hills”.
