All the rooms, including the guest lounge & breakfast room, have views over the garden to the river, with patios & comfy chairs to enjoy the river & birds. Each room has its own entrance & its own bathroom with bath & free-standing shower, as well as underfloor heating & a fan overhead, TV with M-Net; and a kitchenette with bar-fridge, cutlery, crockery, kettle & tea- & coffee-making facilities (but no microwave). Each room has a barbecue, which can be moved to the garden or next to the river & we can provide all the makings of a barbecue if you don't feel like shopping.

The guest lounge & breakfast room have fireplaces & underfloor heating for those early mornings & wintry evenings. In summer the sliding doors stay open & the smell of honeysuckle mingles with the aroma of breakfast coffee.

Canoes are freely available to guests - a different way to watch birds. There are also turtles & otters in the river, seen by the lucky few.

There's an eco-stroll around the farm, with indigenous trees marked for those keen to identify them & a variety of birds to be seen, from the elegant blue crane to the tiny wax-bill; from the Knysna touraco (loerie) to the African hoopoe.

What else can you do during your stay at Bitou River Lodge? The shops & restaurants of Plett are a ten-minute drive away, as are the beautiful beaches, with dolphin- & whale-watching in season. A walk on Robberg Nature Reserve is always good for the soul. At The Crags, a 15-minute drive, are the animals: elephants, wild cats, monkeys, birds. Natures Valley has lovely beach walks & forest trails. Harkerville forest is home to hikes & mountain-bike trails. One can hire a boat & explore the Keurbooms River, five minutes away, or join the ferry cruise up the river & back. Plettenberg Bay has two golf courses: Goose Valley is five minutes away & the Country Club is 15 minutes away. We're happy to book golf for you before you arrive & reserve clubs & carts.

We accept children who're ten years & older. Each room has a sleeper-couch for one extra guest.
