Calmswood Guest House is situated in the beautiful leafy suburb of Kloof, on the western side of Durban, and enjoys the cooler, less humid climate experienced at the top of Field's Hill. The easy access to the M13 means that Hillcrest is only 5 minutes away, Pinetown and New Germany 10 minutes, and central Durban 25 minutes. this is ideal for the business traveller who wants to stay out of town, yet have the convenience.
For those at leisure the Guest House is well located to be a base from which to explore the many attractions of The Valley of 1000 Hills area - spectacular scenery, a Zulu cultural experience, a crocodile farm, and numerous curio and craft shops. If you want a bit of nostalgia take a ride from Kloof Station on the Umgeni Steam Rail, and take in the countryside as you wind your way through the Valley of 1000 Hills to Inchanga Station. On your return 'wet your whistle' at Stokers Arms in the old Victorian red brick Kloof Station building. Further inland to Pietermaritzburg is the Midlands Meander with its myriad of stops featuring homemade products, arts, and crafts. And of course the beaches, Sun Coast Casino, uShaka Marine, and the World Cup Moses Mabhida Stadium are within easy reach.
The many shopping centres in Kloof and Hillcrest will provide for all your needs, and the large regional mall, The Pavilion, is only 15 minutes away. The area also has many quality pubs and restaurants to enjoy at your leisure.
