We were looking for a bustling, vibrant yet comfortable place to stay and found it at Casa Luna in Kalk Bay. Right across from the Brass Bell Restaurant, the Kalk Bay Station and Sirocco Restaurant, we had all the comfort we needed to sooth those aching feet. The comfortably furnished 2 bedroom apartment has everything one needs. From soft towels, great linen, good quality crockery to a great balcony from which to view the whole world. Although the bathroom is extremely small, it has all you need. We visited different areas such as Stellenbosch, Franschoek, etc., each day but kept Kalk Bay for our last day in the Cape and spent 5 hours visiting all the different shops in the immediate vicinity and had lunch at Kalkies right on the harbour. What we loved most about the location of the apartment was that it allowed us to return after a day’s outing, park our rental (without worrying about theft as there is extremely good security in the area) have a drink on the balcony, shower and walk to wherever we decided to dine. Walking back late at night was not a problem due to previously mentioned security guys. With this, I would like to thank Ruben for the fresh fruit and tasty loaf of bread (from the bakery just down the street) which he welcomed us with.To conclude: this is not a place if you are looking for peace and quiet, but a place that is alive, which offers you a variety of restaurants and shops to visit. And if you don’t want to do that, you can just sit on the balcony watch people running to catch the train, listen to the buskers, watch the ocean and be thankful that you are on holiday!

Just a short note to thank you for making our stay so special– welcoming rose petals scattered on the staircase, the fresh fruit on the dining table and bowls of bright flowers dotted around the bedroom and bathroom, we felt that someone had taken the time just so we could feel “special”.

Even the Saturday noises from the Brass Bell couldn’t prevent us from getting a good nights sleep of 9 hours solid (something we have never been able to achieve in Jozi) – and to our great delight the very next morning from our balcony we were able to see a couple of whales frolicking in the bay! We didn’t even have to travel anywhere to be able to see this amazing spectacle!

What didn’t go unnoticed either was the crispy clean starched bed linen and the loads of soft, fluffy white bath towels (and complimentary chocolates….) – lashings of scalding hot water for bath and shower-all one needs really to make a weekend complete! We also enjoyed the fact that whilst the house itself was old and charming, especially with the exhibition of art adorning the walls – we could still enjoy all the modern amenities such as the modern kitchen with microwave oven and fridge, and the tiled shower and bathroom.

Casa Luna was, as you are – totally charming, unobtrusive and unpretentious, with delightful, unexpected hidden surprises! We will definitely recommend this to all our friends who are looking for a private and romantic weekend away. Extremely good value for money, and you our host as helpful as possible.
