Our small town is really picturesque, lying in a valley surrounded by the mountains Mpati, Endumeni, Tangeni and Talana. Cattle and crop are an important part of the Dundee economy, as are game farming, coal mining and tourism.

Dundee is the Municipal centre of the Umzinyathi District municipality and is seeped in the history of South Africa, as nations fought for the supremacy of the area. The importance of the nearby battlefields is well documented and visitors travel from all over the world to visit these special places. We have well qualified and knowledgeable guides who take visitors out to visit the battlefields on request. We are very proud of our Talana Museum that is truly special and cannot be missed when travelling in this area.

We are very close to deep rural Kwa-Zulu Natal and tourists can expect to see the isiZulu people still living the traditional life in the surrounding areas. We are proud of our heritage and enjoy a relaxed and interesting lifestyle. Our town is very dependent on Tourism which has replaced the industry and mining that used to sustain the town.

We lie off the main highways and have managed to retain a more relaxed lifestyle than the towns that are on the main roads and this is found to be very attractive to the visitors to Dundee - it is definitely a place to take breath in our fresh, unpolluted air and enjoy the local ambiance of warmth and comfort.
