Potties B&B/Fly De Aar Lodge

De Aar, the third largest town in the Northern Cape, is centrally located on the main railway line between Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Namibia and tarred roads to surrounding towns. The junction was the second most important railway junction in South Africa, with 110km of railway lines including 29 rail-tracks. The name De Aar refers to the underground water supply in arteries with all of De Aar’s water coming from boreholes. 68 boreholes in the surrounding area of the town, ensure the water supply.

De Aar is also home to the biggest Ammunition Depot in the Southern Hemisphere. The area is also famous for its Karoo Lamb & Springbok which is found in abundance on many Game Farms.

De Aar also holds 5 World paragliding records & 5 SA Records, 1 off which is the Ladies open distance record. This record is held by a local gal - Des Pansi, who is also the host & owner of Fly De Aar Lodge.

Bird Life is a great attraction for bird watchers. One of which is the worlds heaviest flying birds, the Kori Bustard.

The vast surrounding area is tranquil & peacful. So, come enjoy the sounds of the diesel trains in the background busy shunting, while you enjoy sundowners in the warm sun which later cools down to show off the most amazing night sky & its abundance of stars.
