Sandals Guest House

St. Francis Bay, the pretty holiday village, lies west of Port Elizabeth, at the mouth of the Kromme River. The architecture of the place is one of its kind in South Africa with all the houses having thatch roofs – except for the area at the harbour which is built in a Mediterranean style.

St. Francis Bay is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts: It boasts sandy beaches and ideal conditions for surfing. In season, July to October, whales can be seen daily in the Bay of St. Francis. Many holiday homes were built at the numerous canals from where one can get to the Kromme River by boat. The Harbour is the centre of the Calamari fishing and a popular starting point for deep sea fishing trips.

About 10 kilometres south of St. Francis Bay lies Cape St. Francis with its impressive lighthouse built in 1878, which is open to visitors and has a lovely coffee shop serving light meals. Also, one can have beautiful walks through the Fynbos landscape offering various trails, climb between the rocks and watch the enormous breakers in awe.
