Settler Sands

Port Alfred & activities:

Port Alfred has lots of naturally beautiful areas to enjoy, and activities to keep you occupied, if you wish.

It is a historic town, and rich in Settler history, hence the name of this complex. The town’s Kowie History Musuem has many fascinating stories and photos of “the old days” and describes how the town was built around the Kowie River, its central theme, and how it was originally intended to be the main trading town along the coast for ships seeking fresh supplies.

The town hosts numerous sporting events, such as the annual Intervarsity and Interschool rowing regatta on the Kowie River; the Oakley Junior Surf Pro; The Five Royals Golf Tournament, the RE/MAX Kowie Boxing Day Fun Run; the Harry Owsley Bowls Tournament; and the Pineapple Cricket Week, to name a few.

Outdoor fun is surely the main attraction with our beaches, river, and sporting facilities ensuring good times can be had by locals and visitors alike.

Kelly’s and Little Beach are magnificent beaches that are safe for swimming, and others like East and West Beach are great for Surfing or Kite surfing. Other sea based activities include beach walks; rock and surf angling; scuba diving, deep sea fishing charters and beach horse riding. Waterskiing, kayaking, angling, and cruises on the Kowie River are regular activities. Other activities to take part in include golf, tennis, squash, bowls and croquet.

Lots more to see in surrounding areas.
