Built by the Silvie family in 1903, this 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom Edwardian home features spacious rooms, high moulded ceilings, sash windows and shutters, old oregon pine floors throughout, original fire places, secluded front patio and a family kitchen that flows onto the back patio and scenic garden.
The original 4 roomed house was extended in 1930 to include bathrooms and a bigger kitchen and was lovingly restored in the 1980’s by the Mackenzie’s who added to the kitchen a carved wooden counter that served in the long-gone Muizenberg Hotel and screenings on the kitchen walls of historic photos depicting the arrival in the Cape of the first settlers.
The current owner has just renovated SHH to enhance enjoyment of the mountain views including a spectacular view from the back patio of the Devil’s Peak, Table Mountain and Lion’s Head as an amphitheatre, with the mother city nestled at its feet. Caught between Queens and Brownlow Roads and protected from direct street noise, SHH offers tranquil living despite its proximity to the city centre.
Birds flock to enjoy the garden and squirrels run on the Carstens Street steps.
SHH is fully furnished/ equipped and comfortably sleeps 6 persons. It comprises –
• lounge, flat-screen TV with HDPVR decoder, DVD, fireplace (fitted for gas)
• kitchen with fridge, stove, glass-ware, crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, cooking utensils
• dining area in kitchen to seat 6
• main bedroom with fireplace (fitted for gas) (extra length queen-sized double bed), with linen
• front bedroom with bay window (two single beds, can be converted to double), with linen
• third bedroom with double bed, with linen
• bathroom en-suite with elegant Victoria & Albert free standing bath, shower, toilet and basin
• bathroom comprising shower, toilet and basin
• laundry with washing machine, tumble dryer and line
• secluded front patio enclosed by fragrant garden with reed chairs
• back patio with table and chairs to seat 6
• garden areas front, side and back of the house planted with fragrant lavender, rosemary and honey suckle.
SHH is serviced twice a week but additional housekeeping can be arranged on request.
An alarm system, with armed response and supported by the neighbourhood watch, ensures your safety and security.
