The Artist’s Cottage was built 100 years ago by farm workers in the typical Karoo labourers’ flat-roofed style. Extended to include a new en suite bedroom and two outdoor seating areas, the vivacious cottage offers a delightful and cosy self-catering accommodation for two. A perfect base for exploring the spectacularly beautiful region by car, bicycle, plane or on foot. Or for writing that book or screenplay undisturbed... whilst soaking up the warm Karoo winter sun. Long-term rentals available at reduced rates.

Cottage facilities comprise a fully equipped kitchen with an original 50’s gas stove, vintage cast iron Dover wood stove, microwave, fridge, iron + ironing board, a small lounge/dining room, an adjoining bedroom with king size bed, air conditioning/heating, mosquito net and cupboard space, a bathroom with extra-long bathtub, walk in shower, hand basin and hair dryer. The courtyard terrace leads onto a sheltered seating area facing the swimming pool, main house and garden. Percale linen, towels and dressing gowns provided. Serviced once weekly with a laundry service on the premises for a small additional fee. Shady parking is on a quiet, safe country street in front of the cottage. Also available: SATV, wireless ADSL, restaurant booking service.

The Artist’s Cottage has been vibrantly styled with a mix of contemporary South African craft and design, carefully restored vintage furniture and Sally Arnold‘s paintings. 10% of all income earned from the cottage supports the Skuinshuis Scholarship Fund, administered by the artist since 2000 in aid of various creative projects (e.g. art classes, scholarships) for the youth of Prince Albert.
