Summerwood

Hermanus is well known for being the best land-based whale watching spot in the world. The whales are there from about May to December, coming to calve and rest. The beaches are spectacular, and from Voelklip beach you can walk the entire length of the Hermanus coastline on a cliff path, with wonderful views of the sea and mountains. The Raed-na-Gael mountains are close to the house and within 15 minutes you can be on a contour path or zig-zagging upwards to the top of the mountain. Although it is often seen as a holiday town, Hermanus does have all the facilities one might need or want e.g. Pick 'n Pay, Woolworths, a good hospital, restaurants, great shopping. There is a Whale Festival in the September school holidays and a Passion Play in Afrikaans in the Old Harbour every year on Good Friday night. The local farmer's market (every Saturday) has an amazing range of craft and organic produce.
