The Colonial on Arundel

 

We are situated in the Sundays River Valley which is famous for its citrus farms. It is possible to walk on our own citrus farm, down to the Coerney River.
A local farmer offers walks 3 times a week, with advance reservation only, in which the flora of the area is examined.

32 kms from The Colonial is the former Zuurberg Mountain Stagecoach Station from which the view is magnificent and from which walks can be undertaken.

An afternoon visit to a private game reserve within 45 kms of The Colonial offers a game excursion in which giraffe,white rhino,hippo,and a wide selection of antelope are seen The nocturnal part of the drive concentrates on lion viewing.The excursion cost includes a typical South African boma dinner with drinks.They also do a full day excursion which includes a visit to the Addo Elephant National Park in the morning followed by the above afternoon/evening trip.The reserve is 2500 hectares so good game viewing is guaranteed.

Another private Big 5 reserve within an hour of The Colonial offers a day excursion from 11h30 to 18h00 incorporating a boat cruise with finger lunch followed by a game drive into a 7500 hectare reserve.

The Reptile and Raptor Park just 8 kms from The Colonial offers a guided tour in which the visitor sees the rehabilitation of raptors as well as numerous snakes, and crocodile.

The Cheetah Breeding Station allows visitors a closeup experience with cheetah, meercat, caracal and often lion cubs that are being hand reared.

N2 from Port Elizabeth
DIRECTIONS FROM PORT ELIZABETH AIRPORT

When leaving the airport turn right and travel towards the first traffic circle. Keep going round the circle towards the right and then travel along the road which runs along the side of the airport fence. At the first robot intersection, take the off ramp to the left and travel +- 3 kms with the cemetery on your left towards a small traffic circle at which you turn right again. Follow this road round to the next traffic intersection keeping in the middle right turning lane. Turn right at the robot intersection and travel down Walmer Boulevard to the next large set of robots, at which you turn left. The harbour is in front of you at this stage. Having turned left keep in the right hand lane the right and
follow the large signboards that say N2 Grahamstown.After +- 10 kms take the off-ramp marked R 761 to Addo Elephant Park and Sundays River Valley and R 335.
At the top of the off-ramp turn left and drive through the residential area of Motherwell where the road is currently under construction. You are now on the R335.
Travel for about 40 kms into the Village of Addo. Come over the railway line and take the road to the left, just 500 metres further on and marked Kirkwood and R 336.
Travel down this road for 3.5 kms past the SRV Citrus Packhouse on the RHS and the Addo Polo Club on the LHS.
You will then see the large brown sign THE COLONIAL ON ARUNDEL.
Take the dirt road marked the Rietfontein Road for 1 km, over the little bridge, and you will see our farm and bed and breakfast clearly marked on the RHS.


From Paterson/ N10
Take the R342 to Addo.Take the R336 to Kirkwood.
Travel down this road for 3.5 kms past the SRV Citrus Packhouse on the RHS and the Addo Polo Club on the LHS.
You will then see the large brown sign THE COLONIAL ON ARUNDEL.
