Anglo-Boer War Monument and Du
Just 2 hours drive from Gauteng, lies Kroonstad, the third-largest town in the Free State province. The town was named after Voortrekker Sarel Cilliers' horse. The horse, “Kroon” (meaning Crown), drowned in a stream on the site of the present town.
Later, during the Boer War, the British built a concentration camp here to house Boer women and children. Today, the town supports over 110,000 inhabitants and the main industry is agriculture.
