Margate is seaside resort town that is the tourist capital of the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal. The town is 20km southwest of Port Shepstone and lies along the Nkhongweni River mouth. In 1908, Margate was named by the English surveyor Henry Richardson after a resort town in the United Kingdom.
Attractions include pristine beaches, snorkelling and surfing, complemented by a main street that boasts shopping and many restaurants, pubs and nightclubs.
