Nelson Mandela Bay accommodation. The Addo National Park, located 50km from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, is home to over 450 elephants as well as a number of buck, rhino, and buffalo. Covering 164,000 hectares, the park boasts what it calls the Big Seven - elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, southern right whale and great white shark. Furthermore, it has the densest African elephant populations on earth.
The best place to see elephants in the park is on hot days, where they are normally found near waterholes. Rhino and Lion are best spotted in the early morning or evening.
The temperature in the area can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius in summer (November through to February), while winter days are mild but cold at night with frost occurring at times.
Day visitors are not required to book, and park gates are open between 07:00 and 19:00
