Paarl accommodation. Avondale is located in the Paarl area and is well known for its wide range of organic wines, which are produced using 21st century science, technology and research. Due to the stringent fermenting process, healthy grapes, and clean cellar environment, Avondale wines contain less sulphur than normal wines and are also vegan-friendly.
Avondale comprises 160 hectare of which 100 hectares are planted with a selection of mainly Rhône and Bordeaux grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Semillon, Chenin Blanc; and Shiraz, Mourvedre, Grenache, Viognier, Rousanne, and Chardonnay. The vineyards are planted in one hectare size blocks to ensure separate vinification and ageing.
All 100 hectares are certified organic by the Dutch-based Control Union, one of Europe's leading certification authorities with accreditation to the German Bio Nach EG-Öko Verordnung, Britain’s Soil Association, and the USDA certification in the United States of America.
The Cape Dutch manor house has recently been restored, and features antique collector’s items dating back to the 17th and 18th century. Outside the manor house, a colourful organic rose bush garden warms and welcomes visitors. The cellar, rose garden, and river garden are available for functions and weddings and can seat up to 200 people.
