Welcome to the Donkin Lighthouse attraction page - in addition to guides like this post we also list a great selection of hotels, B&B's, guesthouses and self-catering establishments. Please check out our Port Elizabeth page if you're looking for
Port Elizabeth accommodation. Donkin Lighthouse stands tall in Port Elizabeth’s Donkin Reserve. Built in 1861, this National Monument offers a magnificent 360 degree view of the surrounding city. When first built, the Donkin Lighthouse was much lower than its current
height, but it was raised to 7 stories as the city expanded, because ships could no longer distinguish between
the city lights and the lighthouse. The lighthouse is still operational to this day.
The Donkin Lighthouse is a popular destination among foreign visitors, as, due to the buildings height, this may be the best place to take pictures of Port Elizabeth from different angles. This 7 floor tower is well maintained and has historical information displayed on
every floor.
If you're looking for
