Cape Town accommodation. The Golden Acre centre is a sprawling mall encompassing the Cape Town railway station and coach terminals. The mall has many passageways which sprawl beneath this area of the city, filled with eating spots and shopping spots alike, forming a vital pedestrian network. The complex warren of the Golden Acre includes a great hall which opens out on to a flea-market that flanks Heerengracht and Adderley Street.
The Golden Acre is built on the site that was originally the first colonial fort that was later replaced by the Castle of Good Hope. Some archaeological discoveries were made during the building of the Golden Acre and some of these remain on display in the centre. One such find was a reservoir dating back to 1663, a portion of which which has been left exposed to passers-by.
