Welcome to the Heerengracht attraction page - in addition to guides like this article we also list a large selection of hotels, B&B's, guesthouses and self-catering establishments. Please check out our Cape Town page if you're looking for
Cape Town accommodation. The Heerengracht runs through the centre of the Foreshore. It is the lower continuation of Cape Town's historic Adderley Street. It is surrounded by towering commercial buildings and shops and features a central lane of palm trees and fountains. It also plays host to a statue of Bartholomeu Dias (a Portuguese man who circumnavigated the Cape Peninsula in 1488), a statue of Jan van Riebeeck (who founded the first colony in Cape Town), and a statue of Maria de la Queillerie (Jan van Riebeeck's wife) and the War Memorial at the bottom of Adderley Street.
The southern end of Heerengracht flanks the railway station which is encompassed by a multitude of stalls that make up a lively flea-market surrounding the Golden Acre centre.
In addition to attraction guides TravelGround also has a perfect selection of
South Africa accommodation. Take a look!
