Welcome to the Heyshope Dam attraction page - in addition to guides like this post we also list a varied selection of hotels, B&B's, guesthouses and self-catering establishments. Please check out our Standerton page if you're looking for
Standerton accommodation. Heyshope Dam outside of Piet Retief is one of South Africa's biggest Largemouth bass fishing dams. Despite about 120km of shoreline from which to fish, Heyshope Dam's favourite fishing spots are only accessible by boat.
Guided fishing trips with local fly fishermen are easily arranged, and certainly recommended as the dam's unpredictable weather can be unsafe for those unfamiliar with the region.

If you like fishing bass, this is the dam to go to!!!!

Monster bass and you might even set a yellow fish with shallow water lures.
Prefereably use a boat to access the better spots.....keep in mind this dams surface area is larger than Loskop dam for those that have been there before.
