St Lucia accommodation. The iSimangaliso Wetland Park is a unique conservation area, stretching 220km all the way from St Lucia to the Mozambique border. So unique, in fact, that it has been declared a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site.
It has an enormous diversity of natural eco-systems, which naturally explains the massive range of fauna and flora that is found throughout the park. In fact, a large fraction of the Park extends out to sea, and is of the form of magnificent coral reefs and submarine canyons. On land, the natural vegetation comprises mangroves, savanna grassland, woodlands, thickets and wetland.
The bird watching potential of the park is simply enormous, as is the game viewing opportunities. One can even go paddling in some of the numerous lakes, but watch out for those hippos!
