Welcome to the Kommetjie Beach attraction page - in addition to guides like this article we also list a wide range of hotels, B&B's, guesthouses and self-catering establishments. Please take a look at our Cape Town page if you're looking for
Cape Town accommodation. Kommetjie is a small suburb whose name means “small basin” in Afrikaans. There’s evidence that people used this basin as a fish trap long ago.
The main attraction is the wide, long, beautiful beach with attractive rocky patches. It runs over 8km (5mi) to Noordhoek and is well placed for those long walks at the beach.
The beach is ideal for surfing. But the water is very cold, since it is on the Atlantic side of the Cape Peninsula's coastline. So a wetsuit is very much recommended!
