Cape Town accommodation. The Martin Melck House is Cape Town's oldest Cape Dutch Home, dating back to the 18th century. Until 1981, the Martin Melck House was owned by the Lutheran Church
next-door, and today the monument has been restored to its former glory complete with traditional décor. It now also houses the Gold Museum.
Situated next-door to the Lutheran Church on Strand Street, this house is built in a U-shape which shelters a serene walled-garden. The garden of this elegantly styled house is now a splendid tea-garden, definitely worth a visit for anybody visiting either the Martin Melck House itself or the Gold Museum.

The Lutheran church on Strand Street was built in 1771 and was disguised as a warehouse to avoid prosecution for not following the Dutch Reformed Church prevalent at the time. Anton Anreith, the sculptor and carver, was involved in the creation of the facade and the pulpit.
