Knysna accommodation. There is nothing more fascinating than seeing a beach surrounded by castles, and that is exactly what Noetzie looks like. Noetsie, near Knysna, is a charming beach that is surrounded by five castles. The beach is tucked into a secluded section of the Knysna coastline, and because of the small descent required between the car and the beach it is usually sparsely occupied. In fact, the area was declared a conservancy in 1991.
The first thing that strikes visitors is the beautiful, magnificently built castles, which are, in fact, private homes. Unfortunately they cannot be toured as they are privately owned, however they do succeed in adding greatly to the ethereal ambiance of the Noetzie beach.
Some Noetzie residents have cooked up stories such as the castles being hide-outs for pirates, and even go to the extent of saying that it’s the residence of George Rex, a well known historical figure in the region. But amidst all these local spins about its castles, Noetzie is still a wonderful place to visit for its natural beauty and calm.
