Mpenjati accommodation. Riverbend Crocodile Farm boasts more than 200 adult Nile crocodiles, as well as a multitude of juveniles, all living in their natural habitat. Numerous bird species are also to be found gracing the farm’s beautifully landscapes, as well a snake house where snake-handling demonstrations can be viewed.
One of the primary objectives of the sanctuary is to impart knowledge and appreciate of Crocodiles to all who are interested. To meet this objective, and education centre is available on the farm which provides visitors with a plethora of rich and comprehensive information relating to everything from crocodile biology to crocodile conservation. The centre hosts a fascinating audio/visual presentation in English, Afrikaans, Zulu and German which runs continuously.
The crocodiles are only fed once per week. The spectacle can be viewed on Sundays at 15h00, and certain advertised Wednesdays. The feeding is particularly dramatic in summer, when the crocodiles go into a feeding frenzy. They are known to consume up to 5kg of beef or chicken each. The feeding is presented by Howard Kelly who has been a member of the IUCN Crocodile Specialist Group for over 20 years. The crocodile hatching demonstrations he hosts in January and February are near legendary.
