Stellenbosch accommodation. Over the years the Spier wine estate in Stellenbosch has developed into something of an institution. The fabulous wine emanates from an estate which now features three restaurants and a pub. This is, of course, besides the feature more typically associated with a wine farm, like the manor house, dam, lawns, and wine cellar.
The Jonkerhuis, one of the estates restaurants, is well-known for is Cape-Malay buffet, but many visitors simply find a spot to picnic on the well-kept lawn next to the estates dam. And the Spier farm-stall is the perfect spot to buy your picnic items too. During summertime, the farm's over 1000 seat open-air amphitheatre is the perfect spot for some live entertainment. Shows range from jazz to comedy.
Getting to Spier is certainly easier than to any other estate in the regions, as Spier owns an exclusive train (called the Spier Vintage Train) that runs from a private station in Cape Town directly the farm in Stellenbosch.
Relax at Mojo (Spiers Vineyard
When the Stellenbosch wine route began in the early 1970s it was dominated by the three historic estates of Delheim, Simonsig and Spier. Today, however, a multitude of estates in the region offer wine tasting and cellar tours for a reasonable fee. Because of the number of wine tasting stops in Stellenbosch, most tourists choose to visit just a few estates and typically eat lunch at one of the fine estate restaurants. Today, favourite stops on the route include Delheim, Ernie Els Wines, Morgenhoff, Neethlingshof, Saxenburg, Spier Estate, Thelema, and Tokara (although some can only be visited by appointment).
