Wilderness accommodation. Wilderness national park is known for a set of lakes which lie between the sea and a backdrop of indigenous forest slopes – this is South Africa's lake district. There are 5 lakes in the Wilderness region: Island Lake, Langvlei, Rondevlei, Swartvlei and Groenvlei (the only lake outside of the park).
The park is also home to a large variety of birds including 5 types of kingfisher and over 70 waterbird species.
The park is also well know for its two pristine beaches (Wilderness beach and Leentjiesklip beach), which are on a section of the 30 km of protected coastline.

Swimming on the Wilderness coastline, however, is not advisable because strong currents may sweep swimmers offshore.
