If you have the luck of the Irish, you could win free tickets to St Patrick’s Day at Wild Clover Farm!

“There are only two kinds of people in the world, the Irish and those who wish they were.”

While we are very proudly South African and have no desire to actually be Irish, we’ve discovered that there are many similarities between South Africans and the Irish:

  1. They have Paddy and we have Van.
  2. They have leprechauns and we have the Tokoloshe.
  3. The word “shebeen” originates from the Gaelic “síbín”
  4. We love potatoes.
  5. Both our accents are completely incomprehensible to Americans.
  6. Most importantly, we both have green and gold (that’s the beer!) running through our veins.

If that isn’t enough reason to chug a Guinness on St Patrick’s Day, 17 March, then maybe these celebrations – and the chance to win free tickets – will convince you.

Wild Clover Farm St Patrick’s Day

On Saturday, 15 March 2014, 4Leaf Agency and the South African Irish Association are hosting a St Patrick’s Day event like never before at the (appropriately named) Wild Clover Farm outside Stellenbosch.

Party along to a line-up of local artists headlined by SA Idols finalist, Mark Haze. Other groups include Boomslang Alley, Long Time Citizen, Ratrod Cats, De Wallen Band, and Skelmbosch. Of course the event would not be complete without Irish dancing displays, delicious food, and plenty of craft beer, wine, and Irish staples like whiskey and the “Black Stuff”!

The Wild Clover Farm is the perfect venue with its country pub, Wild Clover Brewery, Winery, and Coffee Roastery – all of which will be open for visitors to enjoy. In true St Paddy’s Day tradition, there will be spot prizes for the best dressed. So get your green on and release your inner leprechaun!

“St Patrick’s Day is all about coming together and celebrating the culture and sprit of Irish tradition with food, friends and festivity”, said Frankie Hannigan, Director of 4Leaf Agency. “We look forward to the event and to seeing Cape Town and Stellenbosch locals join us for what will be a St Paddy’s Day to remember!”

Table-Mountain-green

Cape Town goes Green

Tourism Ireland has launched a “Global Greening” campaign where famous attractions and sites around the world will go green on St Patrick’s Day. Mother City dwellers should keep their eyes on Table Mountain on 17 March 2014 as it lights up in an emerald glow, along with iconic international landmarks like the Pyramids, Sydney Opera House, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Niagara Falls, Empire State Building, and Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland® Paris.

You’ll find plenty of Cape Town venues brimming with dressed-up merrymakers:

  • Our top pick has to be the city’s very first genuine Irish restaurant and music pub, The Dubliner, where you can tap your toes to live music while raising a glass or 5 of Guinness, Kilkenny, and green beer.
  • On Saturday, 16 March you can clink your beer mugs at Quay Four Tavern
  • Forester’s Arms (or “Forries”) will be celebrating from 11am til late on Monday, 17 March 2014 with Guiness on tap, a special Irish menu, and loads of promos!
  • Get your black beer fix at O’Driscoll’s Irish Pub & Restaurant on Monday, 17 March 2014.
