Mkomazana Mountain Cottages is a nature lover’s paradise and one of the Southern Drakensberg’s best kept secrets. Discover delightful waterfalls, Bushman rock art sites, and shy reedbuck along the mountain trails. The charming cottages and houses at Mkomazana cater for 2 or 6 guests and offer the utmost in privacy and tranquillity. All units are serviced daily and have fully equipped kitchens, on-site parking, private entrances, and braai facilities. There is also a cosy barn where guests can gather to watch DStv and play a game of pool or table tennis.

Trout Fishing: The crystal clear streams and well stocked dams are a trout fisher’s dream. Mkomazana has 4 stocked dams, of which 3 may be fished on a catch-and-release basis. A professional guide is available for assistance and you will be able to hire equipment. Book at least a day in advance.

4×4 Sani Pass Tours: Enjoy an unforgettable scenic drive up Sani Pass into the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. Guided tours are conducted in specialised vehicles with experienced drivers. Trips include lunch at “the highest pub in Africa” and a Basotho village tour. Don’t forget your passport! (Please note that guests who want to ride their motorbikes and 4-wheelers up Sani Pass may park their vehicles, but are requested not to ride them around the Mkomazana property.)

Walking and Hiking trails: Mkomazana has some of the Drakensberg’s most spectacular trails right on its doorstep. Two distinct trails lead directly from the property. Enjoy a 30 minute walk to Heartbreak Ridge for a birds-eye view of Mkomazana and beautiful views up the Sani Pass, or continue up to Salt ‘n Pepper, a 2 hour walk to the top of the ridge. Alternatively, the Giants Cup trail crosses a few kilometres up the road, while the 90 minute walk to Gxalingenwa starts 2km down the main road.

Mountain biking: Test your mettle  up the fearsome Sani Pass or enjoy a moderately challenging ride to the South African border post and back (approximately 20km). Alternatively, take the scenic rides to Himeville and Cobham.

Sani Pass Hotel and Leisure Resort rests at the foot of the Sani Pass in the beautiful Mkhomazana Valley. Known for its warm hospitality, breath-taking Drakensberg views, and personal service, the hotel accommodates up to 175 guests and offers a wide variety of entertaining things to do. Sporting facilities include a bowling green, badminton court, two floodlit tennis courts, a squash court, volleyball courts, and two outdoor pools adjacent to the outdoor terrace where the whole family can enjoy a fun-filled day. Quad bike trails: Guided quad bike trips range from a 1 hour drive through the grasslands to a 2 hour adventure route. No experience is necessary and all training and safety gear is provided. Children can ride with their parents or on their own if they are over 16 years.

Restaurant: Mkomazana has negotiated a special rate for the 3-course buffet meals offered at Sani Pass Hotel restaurant, which specialises in continental and local style cuisine. Enjoy breakfast buffets, lunches and teas on The Terrace, and candlelit dinners complemented with a fine selection of South African wines.

Spa: Indulge in ultimate relaxation with a range of therapies at the Wellness Centre. You’ll be pampered in the comfort of their panoramic glass treatment rooms or along the Mkhomzana River (weather permitting).
