Witsand is known as the “whale nursery of South Africa†due to the record number of Southern Right Whales that migrate to St Sebastien Bay annually between June and November. Those lucky enough may even spot the birth of a baby whale, which is then thrown into the air by the “midwife†to catch its first breath of air. Visitors are drawn from far and wide to experience Witsand's whale watching opportunities and as a result, an abundance of excellent accommodation, from B&Bs to lodges, are available in Witsand.
