It was a wonderful getaway in nature.
The hospitality is really top notch. The food was very fragrant and we were very spoiled. The surroundings were very beautiful and will definitely make a visit there again.

Dis 'n heerlike wegbreekplek ver van die beskawing met geen selfoonontvangs en sporadiese internetontvangs.

It's a lovely getaway far from civilization with no mobile phone reception and sporadic internet reception.
Accommodation is in neat stone buildings with a fireplace in every room. There is no electricity on the farm and oil lamps at night create an intimate atmosphere. Just bring a good flashlight and battery-powered LED lights if you like to read in the room at night or walk from the living room and dining room to your cottage. The two meals provided are delicious. The nature is beautiful with large trees in the gorge where the resort is located. There are many hiking trails and there are petroglyphs high up on the mountain that can be viewed with the host. The road to Baviaans Lodge is steep and stony in places. A regular sedan car with low ground clearance will struggle.

Amazing nature and very dear host.
We were disappointed with the Lodge. It was neglected and unkempt, definitely not worth the money. The family and friends of the lodge hung out there, played loud music and left liquor bottles, cigarettes everywhere in the garden, barbecue and swimming facilities. Their laundry was even left hanging around the pool for the entire time we were there. However, we had a wonderful time with the Lodge manager who is a very well-read and interesting man and his youngest son Robert, who showed us around. Because we spent 3 days there, we could make good use of the self-catering facilities to keep fruit, drinking water etc. cold, or to make sandwiches for lunch. It was uncomfortable to have to endure with children who are active all day in the mountains until dinner.

We received a warm welcome and instantly felt at home.
Rob and his sons are the perfect hosts! Rob prepared the most delicious dinner and breakfast, homemade rolls and bread at it's best! It was an unforgettable experience. We had to drive so far and did not know where we would end up, but what a surprise when we finally arrived! I would only suggest that visitors should not drive in the dark because it takes quite some time to get there. The scenery is beautiful, so the ride is not boring at all. Make sure you have some food and drink on hand and enjoy the ride!

Nice experience to remember for a long time.
Great breakaway! clean, neat rooms and very delicious dinner and breakfast. Paraffin lamps creates atmosphere but does not allow for much light. Gas plate for kettle would be nice.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
It was probably as remote as you can get. Rob is a wonderful host and excellent cook. I wasn't aware that there is no electricity, but it doesn't bother you and I can recommend it. I prefer lights.
