Accommodation is offered in 4 stylish double-tented camps located in peaceful surroundings and designed to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. Enjoy the full catering with exquisitely prepared traditional African meals, or make use of the open-air, shared self-catering facilities, which include a fully equipped kitchen and braai area.
Brackenhills Private Nature Reserve offers the ultimate getaway destination, whether it's a romantic weekend away, or an adventure mountain biking and cross-country trail running weekend, a family holiday, or just to relax in peaceful nature. Wake up to the chorus of birds and mountain views, take a walk through indigenous forests and unexplored mountains, swim in the refreshing pools in the deep river gorge, and take a guided forest tour to the canyon to view the wildlife. Guests can also try their hand at clay pigeon shooting, have a picnic in the forest, and enjoy good food and wine in front of an open fire.
Wildlife is abundant; including the Cape leopard, African Buffalo, lynx, bushbuck, wild boar, grysbok, klipspringer, porcupine, and over 200 species of birds including the Verreaux eagle, Crowned eagle and Marital eagle. There are also many species of butterflies such as the rare Forest King and the Blue Banded Swallowtail. The forests also boast an abundance of natural wild mushroom varieties.
Brackenhill’s main purpose is the conservation of wildlife and indigenous forests. It is actively trying to reintroduce and protect the natural wildlife that once abundantly roamed Southern Africa, in particular, the Cape leopard, Cape buffalo, bontebok and the mountain zebra. An exciting project is the Brackenhills Leopard Programme where leopards in the indigenous forest are being monitored to encourage their survival in the area.
