Description
The Buffalo Hills Private Nature Reserve is a malaria-free nature reserve offering self-catering accommodation approximately 30 km south of Harrismith in the Eastern Free State, Drakensberg Highlands.
Besides a host of plains game including eland, red hartebeest, grey rhebok, mountain reedbuck, zebra, steenbuck, lechwe, waterbuck and blesbuck, Buffalo Hills supports the very important African Buffalo breeding project where a herd of disease free have been released into the reserve and are monitored daily. Red rabbit, caracal, ant Bear, serval, African wild cat and brown hyena are sometimes seen.
Accommodation is offered in the Beauchef Farm House that can accommodate up to 10 guests, and 2 km from the farmhouse is the Buffalo Hills Mountain Lodge which sleeps up to 12 guests.
Activities on the property include self-drive 4x4 game viewing, bass fishing in one of the 7 dams, hiking with rock art viewing, mountain biking and birding.
