Description

Damara Mopane Lodge is built in a semi circle of interlinking pathways under Mopane trees, leading to a swimming pool at its centre. The lodge has been innovatively designed, and each chalet has its own small garden planted with vegetables. The lodge is situated 25 km from the town of Khorixas, en route to the Twyfelfontein UNESCO World Heritage Site of unique rock engravings.

The main building and chalets of the lodge resemble an African village. The walls are adorned with copies of the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. Comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation is offered in 60 chalets, each with its own garden, surrounded by a low wall. Each chalet has 2 single beds, an en-suite bathroom with a shower, air-conditioning, and tea- and coffee-making facilities.

The lodge offers a restaurant and a wonderful outside verandah, overlooking the garden, and a bonfire in the evenings. The bar overlooks the swimming pool area. The gardens at the lodge supply fresh ingredients for supper, which comprises a starter followed by a delicious buffet. A highlight at the end of the day is to ascend the hill to a viewing platform for a sweeping vista of the Mopane woodland, illuminated by the setting sun. This is the ideal spot for a sundowner. The lodge incorporates the spirit of Damaraland and the Damara people.
