Description

Goukamma - Otter’s Rest is a self-catering lodge located in the Goukamma Nature Reserve. The Goukamma Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area is situated on the Garden Route between Sedgefield and Knysna, and has a diverse array of fascinating habitats and an abundance of smaller wildlife, birds and fish. It is also a World Heritage Site. Goukamma highlights include an extensive dune field with some of the highest vegetated dunes in South Africa, and the unique Groenvlei lake which has no inflowing rivers and only an underground link to the sea.

The Otter’s Rest Lodge is set overlooking the ocean and river. The lodge can accommodate up to 4 guests and comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a guest toilet, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area.

The first bedroom contains a double bed and the second bedroom contains 2 single beds. The bathroom is fitted with a bath, shower, toilet, and washbasin. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering with a stove and oven, fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster, and cutlery and crockery.

The lounge provides a space to relax and enjoy a crackling fire in the indoor fireplace. The living area opens to an expansive deck with outdoor furniture and built-in braai facilities. Private parking is available.

The reserve covers 2,500-hectares of dense coastal forest, including milkwood, yellowwood and candlewood trees. A great time to visit is in September and October when the first spring rains create splashes of bright spring flowers amid the fynbos. This is a year-round destination, as it falls between the Cape’s summer and winter rainfall seasons. Goukamma also borders Buffalo Valley, a conservation area overlooking the Goukamma River.
