Situated within a large tree-filled garden with abundant bird life, Heritage Guest House offers comfortable accommodation in a guest house in Alexandria. The guest house offers warm Eastern Cape hospitality with delicious country cooking and comfortable rooms.

The building is old and was originally built as a small hotel which opened for business in 1852. The original building was a lot smaller and has been added on to over the years. This has resulted in a unique mix of different sizes and style of rooms. Some of the outside buildings also date from that time. The original kitchen was outside and there was a stable block as well, which now houses the laundry and a kitchen, which guests are welcome to use for their own catering. Many of the original features still remain, such as the beautiful yellow wood floors and sash windows. Changes were made in the early 50’s and some areas still show the influence from that time.

Accommodation is offered in 9 rooms and a flat. Apart from the flat, all the rooms are upstairs and are reached by a flight of stairs. Each room is equipped with a heater and an overhead fan, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and a TV with local channels.. While the rooms offer the same facilities, some are cosy and others are larger, where 2 of the original rooms were combined. Some rooms have views of the garden, and some have views of the street. With the exception of room 14 and the flat, none of the rooms are big enough to take an extra bed, so children would need to share with their parents. The guest house offers secure, gated, off-road parking.

In the time the building was built, it was common practice to built on the front boundary of the property, so the guest house is right on the road passing through town, with the extensive garden behind it. The road can be busy in peak times, but during the weekends and over the holidays, it becomes quieter.
