Wonderfully secluded - a rare privilege in our modern world!

We chose Hoop Gasteplaas specifically for its location in terms of birding. We spent a wonderful three days exploring the entire farm on foot and by vehicle. There were lots of special birds, including the sought-after Black-eared Sparrowlark, Stark's Lark, and Double-banded Courser. Watching flocks of Namaqua Sandgrouse come down to drink at the windpump alongside the house was a highlight. It would be an incredible spot to erect a small photographer's hide, actually. We also had some mammal sightings, including Bat-eared Fox and Striped Polecat. The house and facilities at Hoop Gasteplaas were great, and despite the historic farmhouse, everything appeared spotless and modern. It is not too far off the main road, but far enough to be secluded. We thought the dramatic black rocks on the red sands would make a fantastic backdrop for a photoshoot of some sort. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will recommend it to others, especially those who enjoy nature. We definitely want to come back and see the farm in a wet year as well!

Rus vir die siel.

Die huis is afgeleë met die wye ooptes van die Boesmanland. Ek het lank laas so lekker gerus. Die huis is gerieflik ingerig en mooi binne. Ons het net een aand oor gebly en het 'n bewolkte nag gahad. Ons sal graag terugkeer om 'n sterre nag, of 2, hier te beleef. Die oopvuur buite is heerlik vir kuier.
