The stay was enjoyable.

We had a wonderful weekend, but there were issues. 1. I booked the entire house but found out that the owner had booked another couple on the Saturday, which caused me a lot of stress. The owner stays in the house, which we did not know, and had offered her room to stay in. However, this is right by the entertainment area outside, and I was not happy with an elderly couple staying there when we are having a bridal shower and there will be noise. We asked her to rather put the couple in the back room where they could not hear the noise. Due to that, there were not enough beds for us. The owner offered us a blow-up mattress, which we had to agree on, or else someone had to sleep on the floor. If you book the entire house, that means we want the house to ourselves, not sharing with other people; that is what we paid for. 2. The owner said it is a guest house, and as far as I know, there are cleaners who clean up and make up beds in the morning. If it is a guest house, there were no cleaners on the Saturday. 3. When we arrived, the scullery and braai room were not clean. There was one cleaner, and for the size of the house, she should have more than one cleaner, and maybe these areas would have been cleaned. 4. It was extremely hot, and when we saw the pool, it was green. I had to get my husband to come and clean the pool, which helped as the pool was nice and blue after that. 5. Firstly Annamarie, no parties are allowed on the premises and you had a Bachelorette party. I allowed it. Secondly, I do have 2 cleaners that help with the guest house as I told you 1 was sick on that day. All the rooms were in pristine condition.
As for the pool, it was not green and I did not ask you to send your husband as I can sort out my own pool. Nowhere does it say that you booked the entire house instead you booked 6 rooms in a guest house. We do not make up the beds every day. I'm entitled to sit in my office and work. Not only did you have a huge kitchen to do your catering and use of my magnificent outdoor table and swimming pool to host your party, but we also have a strict no-party rule. The seventh room was for the Italian guests and if you were not having a huge party outside there would not be an issue. My house rules are "No Parties and quiet time at 22h00".

Pleasant, tidy, good view.

The beach is 5 minutes away and my room had a view of a beautiful mountain. The room was very clean, and the bathroom had clean shampoo and body wash provided, along with clean towels. The kitchen is spacious and equipped with everything you need, and there is a sparkling blue pool with a huge garden. The host was helpful and ensured a pleasant stay. Horrible, dirty, no toilet paper, shared bathroom with multiple residents in the house.

Entire house stank of a horrible smell. Faeces on the toilet seat lid, pubic hair in the basin. Very noisy with screaming residents until 1 a.m. and then again from 6 a.m. House also stank of cigarette smoke at 6 am in the morning. People running upstairs on the wooden floor until 2 am in the morning. Couldn't get out of there soon enough. Absolutely appalling. Cannot believe that the place operates as a guest house. It's a hostel. I've stayed in backpackers that are better.

We have bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and bedrooms with shared bathrooms that need to be kept clean when sharing. We have two cleaning ladies who keep the guest house in pristine condition. No smoking is allowed in our guest house so how did the house smell of smoke? We are a guest house and just like a Hotel, there are other guests staying on the property you did not book the entire guest house for yourself. Our policy is quiet time at 22:00. If a guest woke up to use the toilet at 02:00 am I doubt they would be running. We have had lovely reviews and very happy customers. Why did you not address your concerns with me?

Nicky and Phillip were great hosts, even though they were on the property with us they were very respectful in giving us our space to be free in the house. Myself and my friends had the most amazing day/night and will definitely be heading back in the summer.

The stay at Hout Bay Gem was amazing. We were a group of 5 couples who could take some time out away from the kids, work and ministry and just focus on being us.
