A warm welcome and lovely supper by Marietjie.

It is a pleasant guest house, with a lovely garden and clean rooms. Both Martietjie and her husband show great hospitality. We enjoyed our stay.

Ordentlik.

This is not fancy accommodation, but it is 'ordentlik'. The rooms are clean and serviced daily. There is air-con, which is an absolute God-send in this area. The WiFi is not too strong and could do with some improving. Nonetheless, Marietjie's Place is as good as one is going to get in Ulundi. Extra points for the cleaner that spontaneously did my washing - I really appreciated it!

Good morning, I would like to comment as follows on the comments made by the two guests. Not only in Ulundi is a very critical water shortage but the whole of South Africa has the same problem. The noise that they heard was not due to geyser but indirectly as a result of the drought we have. We to travel some distance to get water [as the town has no water] daily which we pump into a 4500 liter tank. To get the water out we use a pressure pump which was about 25 metres from their room. Each time someone opens a tap or flushes a toilet the pump starts to replace the pressure in the pump that was released. To be honest this was the first complaint we have had in this regard since the drought started six to eight months ago. Once it rains ample this problem will not occur again.
As for the location one must remember that Ulundi is one of the "old" location types of towns. The whole looks the same except for the new shopping centres that have been built.
Security wise I wish to say that we have not had thefts of whatsoever nature.We do not need a security guard as we have fully electrified the total perimeter of the premises as a measure to keep possible entrance and nuisances outside our premises. The total front a side has a 2000m high wall with the electric fence on top. We regret it that they have not enjoyed their stay but also feel that they could have discussed the matter with us before leaving.
