Description

Nakambale Adventure Lodge is a special and out-of-the-ordinary lodge situated in Ondwangwa with a rich history dating far back to the 1880s. The lodge is surrounded by village homesteads, palm trees, and fields which makes this an ideal place for a taste of authentic Oshiwambo culture.

Accommodation comprises various camping facilities which are built on raised decks with views. Guests have the choice from luxury camping to glamping and camping. The luxury tents have their own private bathroom facilities fitted with a shower, basin, and toilet whereas the glamping and camping share bathroom facilities fitted with a shower, basin, and toilet. Guests should please bring along their own towels.

The lodge has its own food garden and cornfield and offers guests access to communal areas such as a lapa that is used as the main dining area, braai facilities as well as a swimming pool. Wi-Fi is available and safe parking is afforded on the property.

In 1880 a Finnish missionary, Martti Rautanen, settled in a place called Olukonda near Ondangwa. He completed the translation of the Bible into the local language and built a cool, thick-walled mud church and home for his family. He was nicknamed Nakambale after the hat he always wore which resembled a basket turned upside down. The Rautanen home is now a museum and the century-old church remains a striking landmark.
