Description
Oxwagon Lodge, on the Hartbeespoort Dam, is a speciality lodge and one of the most unusual party venues anywhere. It is perfect for weddings, parties, conferences, family reunions and romantic weekend getaways.Treat yourself to an unforgettable night in an authentically restored ox-wagon and a panoramic view of Hartbeespoort Dam from the Witwaterberg Mountains.
Accommodation comprises 9 units and can accommodate 37 guests. As a speciality lodge, guests sleep in an original ox wagon. We also have the Backpackers Inn which is a converted double-decker bus. The Upper Bus is a dormitory that can sleep up to 7 people on bunk beds. The Lower Bus is a small room with 2 single beds. Adjacent to the bus is the Annex that can sleep 2 guests in a double-bed. "The Bus People" share communal bathrooms. Facilities include our open-braai area and a Lapa, a restaurant, a dance floor, an amphitheatre and an outdoor function venue. In addition, our party venue near the pool has ample space both indoors and outdoors, with great views of Hartbeespoort Dam and the valley below.
At the Fever Terrace above the Amphitheatre, guests can enjoy our delicious picnic baskets. We have a conference venue for groups of up to 30 people. Visit our ox wagon museum for a glimpse at the leading-edge technology of 100 years ago.
Please note that the accommodation is reached by means of a gravel road and guests are required to enquire about the condition of the road before booking.
There is a lot to see and do in the Hartbeespoort area, from sightseeing on the aerial cable-way to a visit to the Cradle of Humankind; one of the world's most significant world heritage sites. There are also tours of wildlife centres, African curio markets, water sports, nature walks and quad-bike riding. On Sundays, we prepare a great Sunday lunch menu featuring Oxtail potjiekos, real farm-style bread, samp, and other traditional dishes. Please book in advance for picnic baskets.
