Pabala Private Nature Reserve

Not a good stay.

Pabala Private Nature Reserve is a beautiful place with amazing views. First off, the place was not perfectly clean. We had to wash any kitchen items we used, especially cutlery, even items taken out of the cupboards. Secondly, we had problems using water as they only use Jojo tanks and their pump was faulty. Taking a shower was frustrating. My husband was shown by their staff how to manually switch the pump on when it switched off, which happened every 2 minutes. There was also a pipe leaking under the kitchen sink. They did offer us free breakfast and a small game drive to compensate for our bad experience.

Perfect escape in proximity to PE.

Hubby and I booked a night away for New Year's Eve, just to have a time-out from kids and visitors. We arrived, had a swift check-in and went straight to our Honeymoon suite. We were happy to find a fridge now in the room (it wasn't listed on their website) as we had some ice to keep in the little freezer to enjoy a few glasses of whisky on the stoep. Thanks to the welcoming bottle of bubbly and treats! The restaurant closed at 14h00, but we were advised of this before arrival, so we brought our own snacks along. They also allowed us to check in an hour early so we could order takeaways if we wanted to from the restaurant on site. The room was spotless and had everything we needed. The view out of the huge sliding door and windows is beautiful and just draws you out into the surrounding bush and grass. We could see some ostriches and small buck grazing below. It rained through the night and we were wonderfully cozy on our king-size bed, being lazy and watching series on the free WiFi. I would only recommend that they have firelighters and matches alongside the fireplace should somebody wish to use it when it is colder. The next morning we had our included breakfast at the restaurant (R100 allowance per person) - we couldn't even finish it as it was very filling! We then took a drive through the fynbos valley to the viewpoint at the end - beautiful and plenty of bokkies around! All in all, a wonderful stay!

Natural beauty at its best.

A little gem just outside Port Elizabeth, great for a quick getaway. The suites are clean and comfy. The fireplace works amazingly. There are stacks of game to see right from your door. The camp area also looks great for bigger groups. The meals at the restaurant were very very good.

Quiet and peaceful stay. Beautiful views of mountains.

I would like to suggest that the step down into the kitchen be clearly marked.

Lekker rustig.

Heerlike rustige plek.

We had an awesome stay, the position is wonderful and the views are lovely. There were a few little niggles that would make the stay more comfortable.

The first and biggest gripe is that the camping sites are not level. This resulted in our very heavy camping trailer (Jurgens XT 160) running away out of control from my husband, hitting a tree and only narrowly avoiding careering down the hill, as there was a bit of a mound at the edge of the campsites which stopped the trailer. However the damage to our trailer amounted to just under R2000, so this was rather upsetting. Not to mention that my husband had to return to PE to buy a new jockey wheel for the trailer without which we would not have been able to return home. We also felt that to charge R350 for a self drive game drive around the farm is a bit steep. We are used to camping on farms where one can drive around and see the game for nothing.

Goed ingerig met baie ruim kamers. Het dadelik baie tuis gevoel.

Nicolene het ons behoorlik bederf met die lekkerste ontbyt elke oggend. Dit was 'n regte wegbreek met 'n heerlike rus. Elke kamer het sy eie badkamer, eintlik badsaal gehad. Sal beslis die plek aanbeveel.

Rustige gesinskuier.

Plek is ideaal vir gesinne met jong kinders. Jy hoef niks saam te vat nie, die lapa is volledig uitgerus. Kinders kon veilig speel en rond hardloop en ons kon hulle van die lapa af dophou. Het baie bokke van die lapa afgesien. Grond pad is nie geskik vir 'n baie laae voertuig nie. Restaurant op die perseel was wonderlik. Goeie waarde vir geld. Kinders het die hasies, hoenders en poue vreeslik geniet by die speelplek.

Loved every minute of it.

Definitely want to go back and stay for longer. We also met amazing people during our stay and the restaurant at the top is absolutely awesome, with nice food. The Pabala staff and owner are very friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay there.

Absolutely beautiful.

The weekend was absolutely wonderful. Most beautiful scenery and the unit was very comfortable. The restaurant on site had terrific food and service. Overall a fantastic getaway.

'n Stoep met 'n uitsig.

Ons het lekker gebly by die Klipkothuis. Alles wat 'n mens nodig het, tot vuurhoutjies en vuuraanstekers. Pragtige uitsig op die berge. Ook naby aan die pad as 'n mens êrens heen wil of moet ry.

Baie groot huis met uitstekende uitsigte.

Die badkamers is wonderlik groot ook. Wees net bewus die huis is 20 km weg van die hoofkamp af.

Stil en rustig.

Was rustig en die kinders het dit baie geniet.

Our stay was fabulous.

Enjoyed being in a location so scenic from every angle. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Especially NJ who took us on on a 4x4 drive of note. Tents were comfortable. Kitchen well equipped and ablutions ok.

Peaceful and tranquil.

The stay at the cottage was lovely. Very secluded which gives you that morning coffee and silent thoughts opportunity! The road to the cottage is a quite a long strip of unkept gravel so low riding cars will have an issue getting here, but if you can manage the road, the stay is very worth it! NK (the game ranger) was very accommodating and was on the scene whenever needed.

Absolutely amazing and definitely going back.

The cottage is perfect and the farm atmosphere is there. Exactly what we where looking for. The game drive expenses were the full price for children and are a bit too much, but worth it! We loved the nights outside and the fire wood is top of the range.

It was a lekker trip and a good places to stay but you must have a 4x4.

Please tell me how do the bikers get there with their bikes? I want to come and have breakfast but don't have a 4x4.

Ons het lekker om die vuur gekuier, lekker braaiplek en uitsig.

Ons het baie lekker gekuier. Daar was net ongelukkig geen warm water.

We had a very pleasant stay.

We enjoyed our stay and the beautiful view, quietness of nature. Made bonfires every evening and watched the stars.

This is a beautiful place.

We all liked the location of the place and found no fault with the reservation at all. However, on night 2 there was no water. I called the number provided and a young lady came to sort out the problem. What all felt insulted by being told that we used all the water up after showering. She then told us we would not have any water until the following day. That meant no shower, toilet or water in the kitchen. This was totally unacceptable. We then got told to go shower at the camping area some kilometers away. Surely paying in advance for this reservation the whole water situation should have been sorted before we got there.

Fantasties!

Ons was voorbereid op 'n kamp-uitstappie, maar ons het die volle glamping-uitstappie gekry. Heerlike wegbreek, net om die draai van die stad.

Rustige afskakel in natuur, gerieflik en netjies.

Warm ontvangs, alles netjies en gerieflik. Die natuurskoon is awesome. Ek beveel die ritte sterk aan. Milla, die meerkat steel harte.

Ongelooflik!

Rustig en baie na aan die natuur. Ablusiegeriewe was skoon en netjies, kon dalk net so bietjie meer spasie gehad het.

Stunning setting.

We had a wonderful stay at the Farm house in Pabala Game Farm. The views over the mountains were incredible, with an array of wildlife right on our door step. The staff were friendly and accommodating, taking care to ensure our stay was perfect.

Die stilte en privaatheid was kos vir die siel.

Ons sal definitief weer by Pabala Game Farm gaan bly. Die kortste ou vakansietjie, maar gepak met rustigheid.

Uitstekend.

Dis was uitstekend en almal so vriendelik. Baie dankie vir 'n lekker naweek.

Verkwikkend vir die siel. Diens uitstekend, vriendelik en hulle aandag op detail is merkwaardig.

As jy wil wegkom van die besigheid van die stadslewe is dit net die plek! Die rustigheid, natuur, uitsig en diens was uitstekend. Dis 'n uiters spesiale juweel wat ons ontdek het. Hulle sien ons gou weer!

Ongelooflik.

Groot verrassing. Home from home. Sal definitief weer soontoe gaan.

Excellent stay. However quality of road to campsite is challenging with a sedan car with a trailer.

Baie sentraal.

Die gasheer is bietjie afwesig. Geen instruksies vir diens van eenheid. Moeilik om in te kom, moes hulle elke keer bel. Het vir ons 'n drukkertjie belowe maar nooit gekry nie.

Absolute, fantastiese woonplek, blyplek en rustige natuur.

Dit was 'n wonderlike verblyf vir ons gewees, net jammer dit was so kort. Ben was baie behulpsaam en vriendelik en was altyd daar vir ons. Dankie Ben. Die Farmyard cottage waarin ons gewoon het, het alles gehad wat ons nodig gehad het. Ek kon nie glo toe ek sien dat die wilde bokke sommer so tussen die tente wei nie. Wonderlik. In die aand kon jy niks hoor behalwe die stilte en die aandgeluide nie. Dit is jammer dat daar nie iets op die webtuiste genoem is dat daar 'n swembadjie is nie. Ons het geen swemklere ingepak nie. Sou ook 'n probleem gewees het as ons die tente bespreek het want die pad af na die kampeer plek is verskriklik sleg en sal definitief opgegradeer moet word. Ons sal beslis weer kom en die keer die tente bespreek.

Rustige, wonderlike natuurprag wat jou uitgerus en verfris daar laat weggaan.

Ek was die eerste aand verbaas hoe ek na tegnologie smag, maar na 'n ongelooflike nagrus wat ek ervaar het was dit heeltemal vergete. Ontbyt op die stoep met die hele vallei, koppie en berge voor jou, laat stres by jou voete uitloop soos water. Sal net volgende keer verseker 'n verkyker ook saam vat. Die poue en 'n gestreepte veldmuis het kom more sê. Gewone en silwer tarentale en 'n verskeidenheid van voëlgeluide om jou en jou oggend begin goed. Daar is ook braaigeriewe en wildritte. Ons het die sonsondergang rit gevat en dit was wonderlik. Die eienaar, Wernich, is uiters vriendelik en het groot planne vir die plaas. Sterre kyk was 'n fees sonder enige ligbesoedeling, behalwe 'n vuurtjie wat brand in die verte, lyk dit soos diamante op swart satyn. Dis goed ingerig en met alles wat jy sal nodig hê. Daar is pragtige tente vir die wat "glamping of glamorous camping" wil doen. Dis my volgende keuse dink ek. Glo kinders en ouers sal dit geniet omdat 'n mooi balans van na aan die natuur. en 'n lekker bed het. In alles sal ons definitief weer daar gaan "kuier" en het dit reeds aanbeveel vir 'n hele paar vriende.
