The Peacock Palace is situated in the historic heart of the idyllic town of Prince Albert. It was built over a hundred years ago and welcomes you to a special brand of hospitality. Guests will be entertained by the experienced hosts from Madame Zingara, which is sure to be a treat.
Accommodation is an exclusive art deco suite. The bedroom has a séparé, behind velvet stage curtains. Here you can do sundowners or breakfasts in the privacy of your room. The suite is furnished with a comfortable double bed made up with 100-percent pure cotton linen, 2 luggage racks, a hairdryer, a tea- and coffee-making station hidden in a fabulous drinks cabinet, and Parquet and lacquered floors to finish it all off.
The en-suite bathroom features a magnificent art deco ‘banana’ shower, a homage to the renowned personality of French cabaret, the iconic Josephine Baker. Once the highest earning entertainer in Europe, she danced her way to stardom wearing nothing but a banana skirt. The bathroom further contains fluffy cotton towels and an original 30’s washbasin will make you too feel like a pampered movie star.
Your verandah overlooks the splendid ‘pleasure gardens’. This is an established, lush and shadowy oasis garden. Enjoy the old fruit trees, vegetable patches, herbs, splashes of decorative indigenous desert color and fresh air. The jewel in the garden is a fresh mountain water salt-maintained sparkling splash pool.
For lazy entertainment, spend some in our cosy ‘gentleman’s library and record room’, or let us organise a studio visit to one of Prince Albert’s extraordinary resident artists.
And don’t forget the food; the breakfast at 8 is sumptuous and a la carte. Enjoy fruit gathered from the garden, baked goods from home kitchens and breakfast boerewors from local butchers. You will not go hungry. A 5-course dinner can be pre-booked with your hosts and can be enjoyed in the gardens by night. The hosts will share tastes of their lives as artists on the international variety cabaret and cirque stages. The starter and salad usually originate in our own veggie patches while the soup is also seasonally based and a recipe often learned from fellow travelling artists over the years. Mains highlight the famous Karoo lamb. A vegetarian option is also available. Dessert will be a witblits distilled in a backroom at the museum, or something from a local cake queen’s kitchen. All rounded off with local cheeses and Limoncello, made from our own lemons.
