Description
Rhino Post Safari Lodge is situated at the southern end of a 12,000-hectare private wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park and shares a 15 km unfenced boundary with the famous Mala Mala reserve with an abundance of wildlife moving freely between the 2 reserves. The concession is noted as an excellent game viewing area with encounters with the Big 5 and where good sightings of wild animals can be expected.
Rhino Post Safari Lodge is named after a rhino rubbing post which was discovered in the area just east of what is now the car park. A resident rhino had used this tree stump to rub up against to such an extent that it had become as smooth and glossy as a lovingly polished piece of furniture.
Rhino Post is set under magnificent tamboti trees on the banks of the Mutlumuvi Riverbed. The nature of a wilderness area is that there are no permanent structures, so the lodge is built with natural materials including stone, wood, thatch and canvas to give it an authentic bush feel.
Each luxury suite is stylishly decorated and includes a spacious bedroom with impressive views of the riverbed from the bathroom, outdoor shower and patio deck. Stilts raise the spaciously, beautifully appointed suites from the riverbank, allowing guests to view the Mutlumuvi riverbed with ease from the bedroom, bathroom and private viewing deck. The suites are set in an open-plan style with wooden floors, thatched roofs, canvas walls and a ceiling fan.
Following a game drive, guests can relax in the revitalising swimming pool, take in the views from the shaded patio and watch the abundant wildlife amble down to the waterhole for a midday drink. Sumptuous meals are served in the camp’s dining area, which is set under the trees. The lounge, with its extensive wine cellar, cosy fireplace and bar, is the perfect spot for a sundowner.
